Monticello Airport Fly-In 2000

A T-28 Trojan from the 1950's. It was trainer which could fly off aircraft carriers. This one still has its tailhook.

At 8000 lbs, the Trojan is a massive single prop plane. They landed in a brisk crosswind that bounced everybody around - except them!

That's one heck of a big prop.

They asked me to help hand-prop it. This was the only way I could figure out to get high enough...

The Piper Warrior I fly looks like a turd next to the T-28!

This is a Russian Yak, a military trainer. It's owned privately, and based here
in Monticello. Here the pilot is "Taxiing the Yak" (I just love that sentence!)

The Yak's prop spins to the left, which changes the flight characteristics significantly. Despite this, the pilot says it's relatively easy to fly.

The Yak's cockpit.

Notice the Russian markings on the Yak's gauges.
